Logic is drawing a conclusion from one or more premises. Bad logic can easily happen and involves making a conclusion that does not necessarily follow the logic. Propagandists deliberately manipulate logic to come up with conclusions that aren't necessarily true. In this case, somebody is criticizing the Ministry of Homeland Security for not upholding American values using the technique of oversimplification, presenting illogical conclusion to the audience. |
This poster shows a picture of a face with its mouth covered by stripes of the colours red, white, and blue, representing the United States. The text says "patriotism means no questions", meaning that if you are a true patriot and support the American government, you will not ask any questions and stay silent, or in other words not question what the government is doing. However, this is oversimplification and bad logic since the real meaning of patriotism is much deeper than "no questions", in fact it is ironical as one of the most fundamental right of America is the freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is the right to speak out for or against the government as an American citizen, but this poster simplifies, using bad logic, that patriotism means asking no questions. This is an attempt to criticize and blame the Ministry of Homeland Security for silencing the voices of Americans using bad logic.
